Rumba is a Lagoon 52F sailing catamaran and is a modern high specification yacht, both inside and out. RUMBA's sleek lines enable her to cut through the water producing a stable, comfortable sail. Her interior is modern and spacious. She boasts a u-shaped galley with with wide surface areas making it easy and comfortable to prepare meals and entertain. The attention that the Lagoon architects have put into the interior has created an apartment style feel, but on the water! Her spacious deck provides ample space for sunbathing, relaxing or enjoying a glass of champgane. The aft deck boasts a large table that you can create memories around. A thirst for adventure and experiences encapsulate who Captain John is. Growing up in Michigan he developed a lifelong love of hockey and working on hot rods and classic cars with his dad. He’s earned a Master Mechanics degree; not to mention learning to surf, sail and dive while living in Florida. He’s currently working towards his private pilot’s license when he’s not busy sailing the high seas. Being in the water or on it has become his chief form of recreation and relaxation, and he loves to share these passions with his guests.
With over 75,000 nautical miles of experience in South America, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean and Florida Captain John is more than comfortable on the water. John even holds thirty-year speed records for both north and south bound transits along the eastern seaboard of the United States. Working with Heather he enjoys crafting custom experiences for guests whether it’s finding amazing snorkeling, quiet coves, or sailing the days away.
A life-long Mainer who was born loving the sea and her state's nautical traditions. She was raised as all Mainers are to value hard work, enjoy dry humor, respect Mother Nature and love all well-made things. Her grandmother fostered in her a love of simple, delicious meals with an emphasis on from-scratch making and baking with fresh, wholesome ingredients.
In 2015 Heather was hired on a historic schooner - from the moment she stepped aboard, she was utterly hooked. Working onboard combined her loves of sailing, hospitality, and the challenges of cooking from-scratch meals for thirty people on a woodstove in a tiny galley on a rolling ship. She returned for several summers to teach, but also to learn and improve her sailing, windjamming, and culinary skills. Working with John, Heather has learned how to chart, navigate, and work the systems on any boat.
Seeking new waters and fresh opportunities, John and Heather became a delivery team, sailing thousands of nautical miles together. On crewed charters they create customized experiences for their guests: no two charters are the same.
In their off time they travel to new places to surf, eat, dance, and sail together. Their enthusiasm for life, adventure, teaching, and all things ocean make them perfectly suited to create a once in a lifetime experience for their guests.
The trip was great. We loved John and Heather. They were very knowledgeable and fun. We felt very safe in their hands. One of the highlights was getting to sail to St. Croix. They put up the sails and turned off the motor and the wind took over. It was amazing! Buck Island over there was awesome, too. Beautiful water and sand. We had the beach all to ourselves.
Really, nothing to complain about besides me ruining my phone and Mark, not my Mark, but the other Mark with us, stepped on a black sea urchin and got all the needles in his foot and toes. We had to call an ambulance. We were at Oppenheimer Beach. They didn’t treat him though. Said they would dissolve on their own, and they did.
We snorkeled several times and saw lots of sea turtles and stingrays and got to hold a sea urchin and huge starfish. Lots of yummy food and drinks....I could go on and on. Will post more pics on my Facebook page in a day or two when I have time to go through them all.
I’m ready to go back next summer! Thanks again for helping me with this trip!!

We had an amazing trip with Capt John & Heather! They went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. They even toured us around Anegada in a jeep/truck for the entire day when they could have had the time to themselves! The food was amazing! Who thought you could prepare gourmet meals in a TINY kitchen with no stove! And the portions were perfect. Not too heavy. Best of all, they are both experienced sailors so we had many beautiful sails with them! We were pleasantly surprised at how well they knew the USVI and BVI islands, as they are somewhat new to the area, but you would never know by the knowledge of snorkel spots, restaurants, island history, etc that they shared with us. We would definitely sail again with them!
